Meta Tag Generator

Generate HTML meta tags for SEO with a live Google SERP preview

Get Your Page Metadata Right the First Time

The title tag is the single most important on-page SEO element. The meta description is your ad copy in search results. The robots tag controls whether Google indexes the page at all. Getting any of these wrong costs you traffic. Getting them right doesn’t take long if you’ve got a decent tool.

Fill in the form, title, description, keywords, canonical URL, author, robots settings, and the tool generates properly formatted HTML meta tags in real time. A live SERP preview shows exactly how your page will appear in Google, with character and pixel-width indicators so you know whether anything’s getting truncated.

The Two That Matter Most

Title tag. Keep it under 60 characters (about 580 pixels). Put your primary keyword near the front. “Best Hiking Trails in Colorado - Complete Guide” at 49 characters is solid, keyword-first, clear topic, room to spare.

Meta description. Aim for 150-160 characters. This is your sales pitch in the search results. Include the keyword (it gets bolded when it matches the query), state a clear benefit, and make it specific. “Discover the 15 best hiking trails in Colorado with difficulty ratings, trail lengths, and insider tips for every season.” at 122 characters works well, could even be a touch longer.

The Robots Tag That Everyone Forgets

The index/noindex and follow/nofollow toggles control whether Google crawls and indexes the page. Most pages should be index, follow (the default). But staging pages, thank-you pages, internal search result pages, and duplicate content should be noindex. This is the kind of thing that gets missed during deployment and silently costs you months of indexing.

What About Meta Keywords?

Google officially ignores them. They haven’t been a ranking signal in over a decade. Some minor search engines and internal site search tools still read them, so including them doesn’t hurt, it just doesn’t help with Google.

Working With Other SEO Tags

Your page needs more than just meta tags. The Open Graph Generator creates social media sharing tags for Facebook and LinkedIn. The Twitter Card Generator handles Twitter/X specifically. The SERP Preview tool gives you a more detailed search result simulation with desktop and mobile views.

Front-load your title with the important keywords. Make your description sound like something a human would write, not an AI summary. Both should accurately describe the page, misleading metadata hurts click-through rates once people realize the page doesn’t deliver what the listing promised.

All processing happens in your browser. Safe for client sites and unpublished content.
