End the Post-Dinner Math Argument
Six people, one check, and everyone’s phone calculator is giving different numbers. Someone forgot to include tax. Someone else is calculating 18% of the pre-discount total. It’s a mess. Every time.
Enter the bill, pick a tip percentage (15%, 18%, 20%, 25%, or type your own), enter how many people are splitting, and let the tool handle it. Tip amount, total bill, per-person share, all there instantly.
A Quick Example
Dinner comes to $124. You go with 20%. Four people splitting. Tip is $24.80, total bill is $148.80, each person pays $37.20. Done. No arguing, no fumbling with mental math, no one accidentally tipping 12% because they divided wrong.
The Tipping Question Nobody Agrees On
In the US, 15-20% is standard for sit-down restaurants. 18% used to be the default; lately it’s crept toward 20%. For exceptional service, 25% or more. For takeout, it’s genuinely debated, some people tip 10-15%, others tip nothing, and everyone has strong feelings about it.
Delivery drivers? 15-20% or at minimum a few dollars. Hairstylists? 15-20%. Taxi and rideshare? 15-20% (or round up generously). The preset buttons cover the most common scenarios, and the custom field handles everything else.
If you’re traveling internationally, tipping norms change dramatically. In Japan, tipping can be considered rude. In many European countries, service is included in the bill. In the US, servers depend on tips as a significant portion of their income. The percentages you need vary, which is why the custom option exists.
When the Bill Gets Complicated
This tool does an even split, total bill divided by the number of people. It doesn’t handle the scenario where Dave only had a salad and everyone else ordered steak. For that level of granularity, you’re on your own. But for the straightforward “divide it equally” scenario, which is what most groups end up doing anyway, it’s instant.
The Percentage Calculator handles general percentage math beyond tipping. Your bill amount stays in your browser and isn’t transmitted anywhere.
